ARTISODES on WUCF TV mixes Medicine and Music

Posted by Jennifer Cook on

This week on WUCF TV’s Artisodes, see the joy and hope music brings to patients at Orlando’s Nemours Children’s Hospital.  Students from the University of Central Florida College of Medicine have put together a research project mixing music and medicine.

“I was really interested in music and how that changed the environment within a hospital,” said UCF College of Medicine student Michael Metzner.  So he set out on a mission to get a piano donated.  “I actually received word from a surgeon down in Miami. He couldn’t imagine a better place than to touch the lives of children and their families who are going through some of the most scary times of their lives.”

The piano now sits in the lobby of the hospital.  “For some of the families, it helps the hospital feel a little more like home,” said Michael Campbell, Director of Patient & Family Care at Nemours Children’s Hospital.

WUCF’s Artisodes airs each Thursday on WUCF TV at 8 p.m.
