Meet Sci-Fi Illustrator Megen Nelson on WUCF Artisodes
This week WUCF Artisodes, meet 24-year-old Megen Nelson, a local artist whose science fiction art is getting national attention.
Nelson, who is from Palm Bay and is now a student at the University of Central Florida, is mostly self-taught and likes to draw science fiction artwork that offers a twist on reality.
Earlier this year, Nelson won L. Ron Hubbard’s Illustrators of the Future contest for her work. She says that contest really pulled her art out of the closet it’s been stuck in.
“When I went to L.A. I got professional illustrators telling me my work is worth selling. It’s like what I do means something,” Nelson said. “Art is definitely a piece of humanity. Without it I feel like we live in a pretty soulless world.”
WUCF Artisodes airs each Thursday on WUCF TV at 8 p.m.
