WUCF Plans Hour-Long Special to Connect  Veterans with Local Services

Posted by Jennifer Cook on

WUCF joins forces with Central Florida veteran-service providers and Heart of Florida United Way to connect veterans and their families to resources in a live, hour-long special on Sunday. Courageous Conversations LIVE: Veterans Stories airs Sunday at 7 p.m. on WUCF.

The goal of the program is to highlight stories and resources available across the Central Florida region, while drawing attention to the 2-1-1 and Mission United services offered by United Way.

Other participating organizations include the Department of Veterans Affairs; the University of Central Florida’s Veterans Academic Resource Center; the Camaraderie Foundation; and Mission Continues.

“We know that many veterans are looking for meaningful opportunities to connect with their communities and other veterans,” said WUCF Executive Director Dr. Phil Hoffman. “WUCF is proud to produce this program as part of our commitment to local veterans and connect them with all the important work being done in the community.”

WUCF’s veterans outreach also includes being the lead PBS station in the state of Florida for the Wall of Faces project. WUCF is working with the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund and local veterans groups to collect photos for each of the names on the Vietnam Wall. When the project began, Florida had over 770 missing photographs.  As of October 1, that number is just under 165.
