Posted by Jennifer Cook on

The Daytona Beach Symphony is saying YES to at-risk students in Volusia County.  The YES, or Youth Experiencing Symphony, program reaches over 3000 students each year, providing them with an introduction to classical music.  Go inside this initiative in this week’s WUCF Artisodes.

“For the students in Title 1, it’s a totally eye opening experience to them,” said Dr. Monty Musgrave, Performing Arts Specialist with the Volusia County Schools and YES! program coordinator.   “It’s the first time that, for many of them, their first experience with high culture…and to see professional musicians performing at a first rate level."

The students experience 7-8 live performances each year. Immediately after the concert, opera or dance, students attend a personal question-and-answer period with the performers and have the opportunity to get autographs and personal encouragement.

WUCF Artisodes airs each Thursday on WUCF TV at 8 p.m.
