WUCF TV Awads Orlando’s Lancaster Elementary School Title of CYBERCHASE: STEP IT UP Champion

WUCF TV congratulates Orlando’s Lancaster Elementary School on taking home the title of CYBERCHASE: STEP IT UP champions in Central Florida.

The PBS KIDS math series CYBERCHASE takes kids on educational adventures involving math, health, and the environment – from encouraging kids to be active and eat well, to teaching kids about reducing waste and growing gardens.

To extend the season’s health theme in communities, producers partnered with ChildObesity180 at Tufts University Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy to develop CYBERCHASE: STEP IT UP, a program that inspires kids and educators to find opportunities to work more steps into their regular day while learning related concepts in math. Across the country, approximately 6,000 children participated in the program, with collective goal of adding 30 million extra steps.

Here in Central Florida, 14 schools and over 500 kids participated in the challenge.  Lancaster Elementary school beat out the competition with more than 600,000 steps.  To celebrate, WUCF hosted a party Tuesday with exercise and healthy-food related activities, while presenting winners with certificates and prizes.

CYBERCHASE airs Saturday mornings at 8:30 a.m. on WUCF TV in Central Florida.
