WUCF TV’s Central Florida Roadtrip Journeys to Sanford
Central Florida Roadtrip premieres this Thursday on WUCF, taking viewers inside the people and stories that shaped the city of Sanford.
Explore the history behind the naming of the city, including founding father, Henry Sanford. “He moves to Florida after the Civil War and starts a community and tries to turn it into the citrus capital,” said Dr. James Clark, lecturer in the Department of History at the University of Central Florida. “He’s probably the father of the citrus industry in Florida.”
See how sports played an important part of city history with names like Sam Sneed, Yogi Berra, Jackie Robinson and more.
Delve into Sanford’s military history, and discover why more than 50% of the airman flying over the Pacific during the Korean War were trained in Sanford.
Plus, see how the Central Florida Zoo got its start at a fire station.
The brand new Central Florida Roadtrip premieres Thursday, October 5 at 8 p.m. on WUCF TV.
