WUCF TV's ONE Central Florida highlights service to the community.

This month’s ONE Central Florida magazine show introduces viewers to a high-flying hero who calls Central Florida Home.

The fighter jet seen along SR 408 near Orlando’s Executive Airport was once flown by Orlando’s own Col. Joe Kittinger.  Hear about his three tours in Vietnam, his time spent as a POW in North Vietnam and his world-record jump from space.

“It takes three things,” said Col. Kittinger about his space missions. “It takes confidence in your equipment, it takes confidence in your team and it takes confidence in yourself.  You have to have all three of these. If any one is missing, you’re in trouble.”

Then, meet Chris Whaley, now a pastor at First Baptist Orlando.  But if you follow wrestling, you may remember him as “The Saint.”  Back in 1978 he started wrestling wearing a white mask, white cape and white boots to help hide his identity from his former church.

As part of WUCF TV’s American Graduate program, go inside a program at the Orlando Science Center that is working to create business-savvy kids!

“The Young Entrepreneurs Academy is a program that takes students from an idea to actually starting and running their own business,” said Nicole Rivera, Orlando Science Center’s Young Entrepreneurs Academy.  “It’s a whole yearlong program that takes them through the entire process of starting and running their own business so that when they leave class, they leave as confident real entrepreneurs.”

Finally, go inside a music therapy program changing lives of young Central Floridians with special needs.

“There’s a lot of services and a lot of activities for young children in that early intervention age and school age group,” said Tamela Ponder, Founder and Director of Joyful Music Therapy.  “But once they get to the teenage and that young adult age, there’s not that many activities for socialization.”

ONE Central Florida airs Thursday, July 7 at 8 p.m. on WUCF TV.
