WUCF TV’s SciTech Central explores black bears in Wekiva
Central Florida wildlife biologists are putting tracking collars and cameras on black bears in the Wekiva neighborhoods. This week on SciTech Central, explore the technology behind this move and see how the GPS technology is helping residents stay safe.
“We've actually moved into their areas, it's not the reverse. So we're taking over a lot of the upland, oak woodlands that used to be a steady resource for them,” says Daniel Smith, biology professor at the University of Central Florida. “So that's why we need to be more educated and more aware of our own activities and behavior.”
Then, SciTech Central dives underwater to study sea turtles and other underwater life.
And finally, Jane Goodall is the world’s foremost expert on chimpanzees. Her research has redefined the relationship between humans and animals. Hear from Goodall about her community-centered approach to conservation.
This episode of SciTech Central airs this Thursday, April 16th at 8:30 p.m. on WUCF TV.
