WUCF’s SciTech Central Goes Out of this World

Posted by Jennifer Cook on

This week on SciTech Central, learn about the smallest satellites in space, Cubesats.  These tiny satellites are a much cheaper alternative to traditional satellites, which can cost hundreds of millions of dollars.  SciTech Central examines the cubesat revolution, including two being designed and built by members of the University of Central Florida Physics Department.

“You can send them to little environments that you might not be able to send the big expensive space craft,” said Dr. Addie Dove, Assistant Professor, UCF Department of Physics.” You can also do a lot of different science in different places if you have a lot of little Cubesats.”

Also, an experiment at the International Space Station may help astronauts get to Mars and beyond.

And we sit down with Dr. Alan Stern for an update on some of the surprising findings of the New Horizons mission to Pluto.

SciTech Central airs Thursday, Jan. 18 at 8:30 p.m. on WUCF TV.
